His career began in 1976, when he left college to build a geodesic dome house in New Mexico. He started as a carpenter on a crew that handled every phase of construction, spent a year with a construction materials supplier, and in the early 1980s worked as a trim and finish carpentry contractor. As a warranty service technician for a new home builder, every problem across hundreds of new homes was his to solve. Joe started his own business in the 1980s and incorporated J. D. Taylor Contracting Inc in 1996.
Joe has also worked with two roofing contractors, new home builders, a high-end design and remodeling company, and a commercial contractor, on projects ranging from offices and manufacturing plants to explosives facilities and an environmental test building where wireline trucks were shaken to simulate road conditions. That breadth guides him to materials and methods that deliver durability and lasting value, while his design background helps turn practical improvements into beautiful ones.
Family comes first for Joe. He and Ginger, his wife of 41 years, raised two children: Emily, a CPA, married to James, a firefighter; and Ben, a writer and teacher, married to Meggie, an attorney. That same sense of family shapes his business. Joe treats customers like brothers and sisters, and he has grown J. D. Taylor Contracting Inc through word-of-mouth referrals by taking care of people and solving problems with their homes and buildings.
Joe currently serves on the boards of the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association, the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA, the Kennedale Rotary Club, which he helped found and has served as president, and The Village at Pleasant Ridge, a senior housing complex he helped build at his church. He is also a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for the City of Kennedale.
He served 18 years as a Kennedale ISD Trustee, leading the District Planning Committee through improvements on every campus, including the KISD Performing Arts Center. He has also served as president of the Kennedale Area Chamber of Commerce, a director of the KISD Education Foundation, and a scout troop leader. His recent recognitions/awards include the Chamber’s Legacy Award, Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellow recognition, and the Jet Teague Community Outstanding Leadership Award.
J. D. Taylor Contracting is not a storm-chase outfit that shows up Near Mansfield after a hail event and leaves. Joe Taylor has run this company out of Tarrant County since 1996, sat on the Kennedale ISD School Board from 2000 through 2018 as member, vice president and president, and is a Paul Harris Fellow of The Rotary Foundation. The company took the Good Contractors Organization’s Contractor of the Year award in 2025, cited for customer service, workmanship and integrity, and the Kennedale Area Chamber of Commerce Legacy Award the same year. That is thirty years of a name that stays put, which is the only thing that makes a lifetime warranty mean anything.
